If you run a school, nursery or playgroup, having an AED is important in saving and protecting lives if something should happen. The use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is the only way to restart a heart after cardiac arrest, and the earliest use of an AED is proven to promote the best and sometimes only chance of survival.

“In 2013, emergency medical services attempted to resuscitate approximately 28,000 cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in England. Overall survival rates vary across the country, but range between 2% and 12%. However, survival rates as high as 75% have been reported where CPR and defibrillation are delivered promptly.”

“Modern AEDs are inexpensive, simple to operate and safe for users. The AED will analyse the individual’s heart rhythm and apply a shock to restart it, or advise that CPR should be continued. Voice and/or visual prompts will guide the rescuer through the entire process from when the device is first switched on or opened. These include positioning and attaching the pads, when to start or restart CPR and whether or not a shock is advised.” (Quoted from the NHS guide linked below)

The NHS have a useful guide about using and installing an AED within your school or nursery. You can find it here.

I run a number of first aid courses that cover using an AED confidently and properly. You can navigate through the courses on this website or email – info@firstaidtrainingthatcares.co.uk for more details. You can purchase AEDs directly from us.
