Do you work with children in a nursery, school or childcare setting?

A law, currently being planned by government, will soon require all newly qualified teachers, all nannies, nursery workers and au-pairs to have a valid first aid certificate. Whilst this is not currently a mandatory requirement, we are seeing a rise in individuals and companies looking to stay ahead of ever-changing regulations as well as being confident and assured in a first aid situation.

Being a qualified first aider is a life changing skill. Having the knowledge to deal quickly and safely with a child-related emergency is a value which goes far beyond a certificate pinned to a wall. It’s that reassurance that you can deal with a situation if it arises and that the children in your care are safe and secure.

Children are naturally inquisitive and as they develop and learn about the world, safety can sometimes be compromised. Head injuries, swallowing harmful substances or choking, burns, cuts and bruises are common injuries.

Children do not act the same ways as adults do when injured or harmed, we find the rule of thumb often is a noisy child is a healthy child!!! When a child becomes quiet this could be a sign of harm of they are feeling unwell, but of course this changes depends on the personality of the child. So knowing how to recognise and deal with an ill or injured child saves time and in severe cases can save lives!

The correct first aid training will enable you to correctly treat any of these events, keeping the child and the parent happy.

If you are based in Dorset, my Paediatric First Aid 2 day course and covers all the necessary subjects when dealing with babies and children in a first aid situation. The course, being Ofsted approved, is for all Paediatric workers who care, teach or supervise children and babies in their workplace or at home. As an experienced first aid trainer in Dorset, I will make sure you feel confident in lifesaving First Aid techniques, to use when a First Aid incident or emergency situation arises.

Training will also cover CPR as well as the practical use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device for use in children if age-appropriate.

(All courses are classroom based and require individuals to participate in practical exercise The Paediatric First Aid course will include all current Resuscitation Council 2015 and Health & Safety Executive recommendations and regulations.)
